On the heels of last week’s post about tools for staying abreast of tech and science pubs, the natural question it leads to is, What are some good tech and science pubs for authors?
For science fiction writers, Ars Technica is hard to beat. If something interesting is coming down the pike in the world of science and/or technology, they are sure to cover it. Regular columns on astronomy and the space industry can also offer fodder for story ideas. The entire publication seems very well run, with healthy coverage of AI and other nascent fields.
For papers, arXiv is hard to beat. It’s free and hosted by Cornell, at least for now. Scholarly papers are sorted in macro-categories like Physics, Mathematics and Quantitative Biology. Some 2.4 million papers at arXiv are not peer-reviewed, but are hosted on the site. Occasionally serving as a preprint location, some authors use arXiv before going through the peer review process. It has strong open-access underpinnings. On occasion a kerfuffle occurs in the community. They were in the middle of a superconductivity controversy we discussed recently.
Finally, no list like this would be complete without mentioning Science.org. Their latest news covers seemingly everything, and their First Release section also offers a sneak peek at scientific papers at the pre-publication stage.
I’m pleased to report last week’s freebie, Steam and Aether Books 1-3 Box Set did very well. On Friday night it crested the Top 50 on Amazon, which was fun to see.
This week I’m trying to revive interest in an older fantasy series, The Forlorn Dagger Trilogy Box Set, and it is on a Kindle Countdown Deal. If you don’t have that one yet, now is a good time to grab it on sale.
Also, don’t forget Apocalypse Code, Book 6 in the Star League Assassins series. It is on pre-order and will automatically download to your Kindle on Christmas Day if you order it now.

Thanks for sharing, Jaxon! Very helpful as I begin my sci-fi novel writing journey with Alpha Guard :) https://alphaguard.substack.com/p/alpha-guard-chapter-one
Ohhh..I remember THE FORLORN DAGGER series! I went to check if I had reviewed the boxset I had also purchased in 2019. It is, and was very happy to see my review still there. 😄 A phenomenal, exciting and riveting story. 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I highly recommend this series.
